There are many opposing studies, research and beliefs to whether an individual that chooses to smoke weed everyday brings any serious harm to their general health or not.
A State University professor – Madeline Meier in Arizona, started new research in order to find the answer to this intriguing question. The team studied exactly 1,037 people from New Zealand.
According to their study, long-term usage of marijuana has no significant effect on physical health. The only issue they encountered during their research were problems with gum disease.
Also, they discovered some general health issues such as problems with blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, weight, and lung function, but couldn’t conclusively tie those issues to their use of Marijuana.
In short, they made a conclusion that people’s health is not affected by consuming marijuana on a regular basis for long periods of time.
The team concluded with their study:
“In general, our findings showed that cannabis use over 20 years was unrelated to health problems in early midlife…Across several domains of health (periodontal health, lung function, systemic inflammation, and metabolic health), clear evidence of an adverse association with cannabis use was apparent for only one domain, namely, periodontal health.”
It certainly isn’t without any health concerns whatsoever. When the team took into control the measures concerning the dental hygiene, the connection between gum issues and marijuana were still present. It basically determined that those who smoked the plant were not as likely to take care of their teeth and gums by flossing and brushing.
It’s interesting that this study limits only on marijuana’s physical health relation. This study doesn’t question the influence of marijuana on an individual’s mental health. The team who conducted this study used the data set for a different finding and came up with strong evidence that there is an IQ decline as a result of a long-term smoking of marijuana.
In the end, there are upsides and downsides to using Marijuana. Some individuals claim extremely successful health benefits and even highly reputable sources have admitted particular medicinal qualities for certain patients who utilize it. However; it still remains scheduled as a drug in a federal sense, and only a handful of states in the US have decriminalized and/or legalized it.
It’s been said in studies that it reduces the nausea of cancer patients that go through chemotherapy, and also to help multiple sclerosis victims with their tremors.
