Craig Ballantyne is a fitness trainer who has a blog about eating healthy and getting good sleep. Ballantyne has come up with the formula he’s dubbed “10-3-2-1-0”, which means anybody can get a good night’s rest and wake up feeling energized and ready to face the day.
According to Ballantyne, getting a good night’s rest starts during the day, before a person even turns the light off.
10 Hours Before Bedtime
In order to get a good night’s rest, you need to forgo the caffeine – no tea, no coffee, no energy drinks, no chocolate, etc. You need to swear it all off so the bloodstream can eliminate the stimulants inside the body.
3 Hours Before Bedtime
Don’t eat or drink anything including alcohol if you have three hours before you go to sleep. Your body uses a plethora of energy to digest food and eliminate the harmful things in alcohol. When you come home from work and rest, your body is working full-tilt. It makes you feel like you’ve done a hard day’s labor the next morning.
2 Hours Before Bedtime
While you should leave work at work, it’s not always possible to do. However, you do need to stop thinking about it or doing any kind of work-related work two hours before bed. Remember, your work will still be there in the morning, so why stress about it now?
1 Hour Before Bedtime
An hour before bed, you need to turn off all the electronics – computer, TV, smartphone, etc. You may want to check out what’s going on in the world on Twitter and Facebook, or you may want to look for your next crafting project on Pinterest. Avoid it all until the next day. You want your eyes and mind to get some rest.
0 Minutes (Your Alarm Is Ringing)
The moment your alarm goes off, you need to get up. Avoid slapping the snooze button over and over. Going back to sleep even for seven to 10 minutes won’t give you any more energy when you do need to face the day and world.
And lastly, this one is important!
Should You Lay Down On Your Side or Back?
Believe it or not, your sleeping position has a significant impact on how your health and how you feel the next day. If you sleep on your back, you’ll look younger for an extended period of time. Why? It doesn’t cause as many wrinkles or fine lines to appear. If you’re a woman, the back posture maintains support of the breasts, which keeps sagging from occurring.
If you follow these steps, you should easily know how to sleep better from this point forward! If you’re having trouble getting to sleep check out our other articles.
