Of all the fruits you can eat in the world, the lemon is the most beneficial, with a plethora of health benefits to boot. Best of all, lemons, with their unique scent and flavor, can be added to all kinds of recipes.
Lemons are wonderful detoxifiers, but many people are under the mistaken the impression that any form of lemon will work to combat health problems. A juiced lemon loses a majority of its nutrients and healing potential. However, a frozen lemon will retain the nutrients the body needs.
For instance, the lemon peel can:
- boost the immune system
- regulate cholesterol levels
- treat bacterial infections
- thwart the growth of cancer cells
- kill worms and parasites
It can also:
- prevent asthma
- fight inflammation
- treat depression
- detoxify the liver and kidneys, and much more…
Lemon juice is loaded with vitamin C, and the rind has proven to be effective in getting rid of the build-up of toxins. Various studies show that the peel has up to 10 times more vitamins than the lemon itself.
Years ago, researchers looked at lemons’ effect on cancer. According to the research, the fruit could destroy the malignant cells for certain kinds of cancer such as breast, colon and lung cancers. Lemons also target just the cancer cells, not healthy ones. Chemotherapy targets all cells in the body – healthy and unhealthy.
Nutritionist and women’s health expert Dr. Marilyn Glenville said the peels on all kinds of fruit could increase the strength of the immune system and improve overall health. She said smoothies tend to be better than juices because they tend to contain various parts of the fruit such as the peel.
Since lemon smoothies can have a bitter taste, freezing the fruit is encouraged. How can you freeze lemons?
Wash the lemons in apple cider vinegar, rinsing them off and allowing them to air dry. Place them in the freezer until the next day. Grate the whole fruit – peel, seeds, and pulp. These lemons can be added to an array of concoctions – baked goods, desserts, smoothies, tea and other tasty dishes.
