The human body is a real wonder. It consists of a wide variety of biological cycles and various complex systems. Defense mechanisms are a significant part of this complex system our body has. It is constantly keeping us safe, 24/7.
These are 9 amazing things our body does in order to protect us. The strange thing about this is that we are perfectly unaware of these defense mechanisms.
Yawning
Yawning cools our brain every time it can’t stand the ‘pressure’. It may signify that your brain isn’t getting enough oxygen.
Sneezing
Sneezing is very important because this way our body gets rid of many irritants such as dust, microbes, and others.
Stretching
Stretching has a multifunctional purpose. It prepares our body and muscles for action, also it’s good for blood flow and our mood.
Hiccuping
Every time we either eat too fast or swallow food, we irritate the pneumogastric nerve, or to put it simply, our stomach and a diaphragm. The result of this are loads of hiccups.
Jerking In Our Sleep
This is one of the strangest defense mechanisms. When we fall asleep, our breathing and pulse slow down and the muscles gradually relax. Since our brains recognize this as a state of heralding death it reacts with jolts in order to ‘save’ us.
Wrinkling of the skin
When our body finds in a ‘wet’ environment, it understands this as the possibility of a slippery environment. That’s why our skin changes in order to make it easier for us to grasp even surfaces.
Loss of memory
This phenomenon happens in situations when we face the most stressful experiences. In these situations, our brain tends to delete these horrible moments.
Goosebumps
When we encounter unpleasant climatic conditions, goosebumps lessen the heat that our body loses and this way we can warm our body much easier.
Tears
Tears appear as a ‘physical’ defense – they stop foreign objects to come into our eyes. Also, tears appear as an ‘emotional’ defense. According to the scientists, tears act as a distraction in order to take away our attention from the real reason of pain.
These defense mechanisms are so interesting, it really makes you respect the wonder and spirit of the human body! Protect your body the same way it protects you.
